Elderly Copley man imprisoned for killing wife dies
An 86-year-old Copley Township man who was sentenced last summer to life in prison for the shooting death of his wife has died.
Glenn Burbridge died Dec. 29 at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said Burbridge died of natural causes.
He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison on Aug. 16 after pleading guilty to the murder of his wife, Alice Burbridge, 83. The couple had been married for 67 years. They had four children, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Glenn Burbridge was sent first to the Pickaway Correctional Institution. Because of his ailing condition, he was soon transferred to the state prison system’s Franklin Medical Center in Columbus. On Dec. 14, he entered the OSU medical facility.
Burbridge admitted shooting his wife in the face with a .38-caliber revolver as she lay in their bed around midnight on March 23. The shooting came after a day of arguing with her, police said. At one point, Alice Burbridge told her husband she was no longer in love, a comment that police said prompted the shooting.
A contrite Burbridge threatened suicide during his 911 call to police from his South Cleveland-Massillon Road home. His wife died about 15 hours later at a local hospital.
The Burbridges were married Nov. 21, 1944, in Clarksburg, W.Va., and had owned their three-bedroom, ranch-style home in Copley since 1987. Glenn Burbridge operated Alltown Antenna & Satellite Service.
